  16. After days of debugging a GPF problem with certain configurations was finally
  17. tracked down to a problem with the DLL interface that was used with a custom
  18. control DLL. The interface has been rewritten to correct the bug.
  19.  
  20. Logging has returned to normal again, it was previously disabled due to an
  21. incorrect flag setting.

  24. NEW FEATURES:

  26. There is now a Channel mode panel on channel windows. The personal mode is
  27. now displayed on the status bar.

  29. DCC SEND and CHAT has been improved.
  30.  
  31. DCC SEND was previously somewhat problematic when packetsize was set at 512
  32. bytes. DCC SEND will now survive net splits and disconnects. It would
  33. previously disconnect if a net split or server disconnect occurred while a
  34. transfer was in progress.

  36. DCC CHAT was previously being dropped when left idle for a long period of
  37. time, it is now set to send KEEPALIVE signals to maintain the connection even
  38. when idle for long period of time.

  40. BAN, UNBAN, DESC, IGNORE buttons have been added.

  42. New toggles have been added.

  44. AWAY text message can be broadcast (default setting) when AWAY is set. Use
  45. the ACAST command to toggle AWAY broadcasts. When broadcast, an ACTION
  46. command is sent to open public and private channels. When you set an away
  47. message, the away message will be broadcast to all joined and private
  48. channels. On clearing the away message, a return message is also broadcast.

  50. Private messages can be globally accepted or ignored (individuals can be
  51. ignored by usage of the ignore list). (PACC)

  53. Private messages can be logged or ignored by a global setting. This toggle is
  54. useful when WSIRC is used to wait and accept private messages while
  55. unattended. (PLOG)

  57. Private messages can be displayed in a new window or in the current window
  58. using different brackets ( "(*nickname*)" instead of "[nickname]" ). (PDISP)

  60. Private messages can be set to display whois info when a new private message
  61. window is opened. (PWHOIS)

  63. Date&Time stamps can be toggled on or off for server, channel and private
  64. windows, this allows a quick check of when a message was received in a
  65. private window and alsa allows a chronological view of the logs. (TSTAMP)

  67. Activity flash can be set individually for each window. This allows you to
  68. quickly visually see which channels are active with new text. (PFLASH)

  70. WSIRC will respond to additional CTCP commands: PING, ECHO, TIME. A PING
  71. command has been added to allow PING-ing a nickname (PING <nickname>).

  73. To make channel hopping more convenient, a command has been added to
  74. open a new channel and close the old channel. (HOP <channelname>).

  76. To force a new Private Message window to open, a new command has been added
  77. to force the window to open, it functions just like the MSG command but opens
  78. the window immediately. (QMSG <nickname>).

  80. A SITE LICENSE version is now available and can be registered on CompuServe.
  81. The SITE LICENSE version allows running from a LAN with a private WSIRC.INI
  82. for each user.

  84. For those using WSIRC on a network a DOS environment variable (SET WSIRC)
  85. have been provided to allow the location of the WSIRC.INI file to be
  86. specified by the DOS environment variable. Please note that usage of WSIRC on
  87. a network requires a site license, the cost is US$ 449.- for unlimited users
  88. per geo-site/geo-LAN (not per-company), documentation is limited to
  89. 10 copies. The site-license version allows running of WSIRC from the LAN with
  90. a private WSIRC.INI file for each user.

  94. On startup, the server options dialog box is displayed automatically along
  95. with the approporate help file entry.

  97. A double click on a user in the user list-box will bring up a dialog with
  98. the user's whois information. The dialog box allows a set of buttons to be
  99. applied to the user.

  101. The play file in the server window can now direct a command to a specific
  102. window. Prefix the command with the channelname and "->". E.g. #bawel->wait *
  103. will cause the #bawel channel to execute the wait * command.

  105. Fonts, colors and command history didn't make it to this release update due
  106. to time constraints.  It is still being planned for a future version.

  109. KNOWN PROBLEMS:

  111. There was a problem with an old BWCC.DLL running with the new version of
  112. PVPLUS.DLL and WINCTL.DLL.  This has been resolved with the use of a new
  113. BWCC.DLL and modification to the source code.

  116. DESCRIPTION:

  118. WSIRC is a Windows client for the Internet Relay Chat network. It allows
  119. Internet users to chat electronically with each other using IRC servers.
  120.  
  121. The advantage is that users worldwide can access the IRC network and
  122. converse with users worldwide.
  123.  
  124. WSIRC is a Windows Sockets 1.1 compliant application and has been tested
  125. with NetManage's and Trumpet's WINSOCK.DLL tcp/ip protocol stack.
  126.  
  127. A WSIRC IRC server is currently under construction to provide video, audio,
  128. raw data as well as the currently supported text data.

  131. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  133. WINSOCK.DLL must be present.  WINSOCK.DLL is provided as part of your
  134. networking software. It is not part of WSIRC.  A number of shareware versions
  135. exist. Of note is Peter Tattam's $20 shareware WINSOCK.DLL available from a
  136. number of ftp sites.  A book called Windows Internet Tour Guide includes a
  137. sampler version of Netmanage's Chameleon (version 3.11) for $25.- it's a very
  138. good book for Internet beginners. Explains SLIP/PPP, setup, mail, ping, news,
  139. ftp, telnet, mailing lists, etc.

  157. Please note that I created WSIRC for my own personal enjoyment as a hobby.
  158. It is not meant to be a money-making venture although I don't mind financial
  159. recognition for it.  In the spirit of cooperation within the Internet I have
  160. included a FREEWARE version for use by anybody that simply won't or can't
  161. purchase a licensed registered copy.  Funds received from registration will
  162. go towards further development of WSIRC. The future includes images, sound
  163. and video in both client and server versions.

  166. version of BWCCxxxx.DLL from FTP.BORLAND.COM if your Windows installation
  167. displays a missing BWCCxxxx.DLL message box due to an International language
  168. Windows intallation.
